WHAT IS YOM KIPPUR

Yom Kippur is part of The Fall Feasts that are observed all throughout the bible during
the month of September / October.

God has identified these days within each feast as 'appointed times'
to be observed forever, from generation to generation.

It is a day set aside for prayer and fasting, both on a personal level and for the nations.

The first Yom Kippur took place after the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt and
arrival at Mount Sinai.

Yom Kippur was the only day on which the high priest could enter the inner sanctum of the
Holy Temple in Jerusalem.
There, he would perform a series of rituals and sprinkle blood from sacrificed animals
on the Ark of the Covenant, whch contained the Ten Commandments.
Through this complex ceremony he made atonement and asked for God’s forgiveness on
behalf of all the people of Israel.

Today, we not need to do sacrifices of blood and animals for our sins,
or have a priest go to God on our behalf.
Jesus Christ is the lamb that was sacrificed for us,
and He now interceeds on our behalf before God in heaven.
Because Jesus died for our salvation,
he has made a way for us to go directly to God in prayer.

Yom Kippur is a time of personal reflection and repentance of sins through fasting and prayer.
